Biochar from Agro-Forest Residue: Application Perspective Based on Decision Support Analysis

The present work aims at (a) carbonizing agriculture biomass residue; (b) characterizing the obtained biochar; and (c) exploring its potential use for energy/resource recovery purposes. Six types of were carbonized. biochar was investigated through scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy detector, thermogravimetric (TGA), proximate, ultimate, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analyses, along bulk density, pH, electrical conductivity, salt content measurements. results served as input data multi-criteria, multi-objective decision analysis biochar, aiming to evaluate best application prospective. TGA identified two general stages: devolatilization (stage 2: 180–560 °C), combustion 3: 560–720 °C). activation stage 2 decreased an increasing heating rate, but opposite trend observed 3. CO2 adsorption suggested possible applications beyond conversion technologies. support revealed that peach stones, cherry grape pomace achieved most promising all evaluated (biofuel; catalyst; sequestration soil amendment; supercapacitor) in contrast colza, softwood, or sunflower husks char.
